Tasmania Tomorrow Handbooks Released
Handbooks providing more details on the Tasmanian Polytechnic, the Tasmanian Academy and the Training Enterprise will be available from today.
The handbooks will outline the full range of courses, subjects and programs available in 2009.
Premier David Bartlett said that from next year Tasmanian students and businesses will have far more choice in how they or their employees, can work towards getting a qualification or university degree.
“The Tasmania Tomorrow initiative brings together the best of our senior secondary colleges and the work expertise of TAFE to provide better course options and a place where students, employers and individuals can learn the skills they need for the future.
“The Tasmanian Polytechnic will offer students a practical, hands-on approach to learning that takes place in the classroom and the workplace.
“The primary goal for the Tasmanian Academy is to help students to complete Year 12,enhance their TE score and put them on the pathway to university.
“The Training Enterprise will have a stronger focus on building relationships with business and with the employees who work for them,” he said.
Mr Bartlett said that students can work towards their Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) at all three new organisations.
“Students currently in year 11 can choose to attend the Tasmanian Academy, the Tasmanian Polytechnic or continue with their planned two year college program.
“Hobart, Newstead, Don and Hellyer Colleges will become part of the Academy and Polytechnic from next year. The remaining colleges will continue their current offerings and join the new organisations by 2011.
“All Year 10 and 11 government school students will receive a copy of the Tasmanian Polytechnic and Tasmanian Academy handbooks through their school or college.
“Copies will also be available at TAFE Tasmania campuses for staff, students and potential students.”
