21st century portfolios take Territory into the future
Digital portfolios are showcasing the talents and skills of Indigenous artists who want to take on administrative roles in Northern Territory (NT) arts centres.
‘E-portfolios’ are self-managed electronic portfolios which are fast becoming the resumes of the 21st century. They can include everything from multi-media demonstrations to digital video presentations and they help students prove their skills to prospective employers.
A project being led by Charles Darwin University will use e-portfolios to identify the skills and knowledge gaps of Indigenous artists keen to take on administrative roles in NT arts centres.
The artists will be able to populate their e-portfolios with evidence of informal and formal training, from casual on-the-job training to the gaining of formal business qualifications, which will assist them in receiving formal recognition of prior learning (RPL) and identify their current skills.
This means that the artists won’t have to do any unnecessary additional training and if they do require further training, it can be specifically tailored to their needs. The artists can also use their e-portfolios to showcase their Indigenous cultural knowledge, including interpreting and translating skills.
This is only one example of how technology is making an impact on the Territory.
From 19-24 October, E-nabling NT – taking the show on the road 08 will visit 14 locations across the Territory, showcasing how technology is delivering real skills and real job opportunities to Territorians.
Innovative technology-based training and learning solutions are connecting remote teachers, trainers and learners, offering equal access to learning opportunities for all Territorians, regardless of location.
Organisations and businesses will discover how technology can assist them with their workforce development needs, while giving workers an opportunity to gain official recognition for skills they already have.
Teachers and trainers will be shown how to access and use free electronic training resources, featuring scenarios, images and activities that simulate real life, to engage students.
All Territorians are invited to attend one or more of the 14 E-nabling NT – taking the show on the road 08 mobile events to try, test and play with new gadgets and technologies. Free giveaways, sausage sizzles and information packs will be available on the day – which offers a great opportunity for locals to catch up with colleagues and friends.
