The Woombalah Festival is expected to attract some 10,000 people over the weekend and you’re the Community Safety Officer.
There will be stalls, a camp ground, bands, kids rides and parking facilities for festival goers, who range from toddlers to senior citizens.
Lucky for you there is an e-learning resource that will talk you through your tasks — the Public Safety Flexible Learning Toolbox.
Flexible Learning Toolboxes (Toolboxes) are high quality, cost effective products featuring scenarios, images and interactive activities that simulate real life. They are designed for use by training providers, industry and business.
The Public Safety Toolbox can be used in conjunction with practical on-the-job training and covers competencies from Certificate III to Diploma level in the new Public Safety Training Package.
Working with the Festival Risk Manager, learners have to manage the Woombalah Festival’s Community Risk Assessment, Community Awareness and Community Risk Prevention strategies.
There are tasks to complete, tools to help the learner and an evidence portfolio to fill.
For example, a truck is out of control on a nearby highway and looks to be careering towards the festival – what would you do?
The Public Safety Toolbox is aimed at those working in the community safety industry, or with organisations that are required to identify community safety issues, such as emergency services, fire authorities, local councils and the police force.
Linda Stannard, Toolbox Quality Manager, said the Toolbox engaged learners in a flexible multimedia experience focused on practical workplace solutions.
“Emergency services personnel routinely work in dangerous, high pressure environments, and as such require a full complement of training and professional development resources to continue providing vital services in times of need.
‘The Public Safety Toolbox not only provides insight into identifying early warning signs, but also teaches critical thinking strategies to avert further injury or disaster.”
