The Federal Minister for Vocational and Further Education, the Hon Andrew Robb AO MP, today announced funding of $37,636 for a skill centre based at Tumby Bay Area School, in South Australia.

“This will be a centre of excellence in olive processing and an information and hospitality centre for tourism serving the Eyre Peninsula region,” Mr Robb said.

“Year 11 and 12 students now have an opportunity to experience the full range of business, production, retail and tourism work, and gain a head start in their careers in local industry and beyond.”

The Skill Centre is a joint partnership between the Australian Government, the local olive industry, the local council and the Tumby Bay Area School.

“Training that is driven by local industry means students complete their qualification ready to make a significant contribution to their region,” Mr Robb said.

“The Australian Government is committed to improving the skills of Australians and quality infrastructure supports the delivery of quality training.

“I commend all those who have partnered with Tumby Bay Area School to give young Australians in South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula region a brighter future.”

Federal Member for Grey Barry Wakelin said the Tumby Bay Area School has shown great innovation in increasing opportunities for its students.

“This is the second lot of Federal Government funding awarded to the skills centre,” he said. “Students will now have access to a state-of-the-art olive industry training facility providing them with the opportunity to learn vital skills in the industry.”
