$500,000 for Australian Learned Academies

The Australian Governement will support six LASP (Linkage Learned Academies Special Projects) beginning in 2007 with funding of $502,000 over three years.
This will increase funding into research into the solar system, biofuels, nonatechnology, professional development for early career researchers, humanities infrastructure and creativity and innovation.

Julie Bishop Media release re University Finances

The latest report (2005) on university finances show they are in a strong financial position.
From 2004 to 2005:
- total revenue increased by 8.1% to $13.9 billion
- operating result increased by 36.6% to $838 million
- total federal government funding increased by 9.3% to $7.8 billion
- net assets increased by 7% to $25.7 billion

ESL Funding

The Uniting Church in NSW has called on the State Government to match the recent commitment of the Coalition to fund an additional 200 ESL tacher places.
The Social Policy Officer with UnitingCare NSW, ACT, Justin Whelan said the number of ESL teachers had increased by just ten since 1993, leaving 41,000 students with no ESL [...]
